Glimpses of Readomania #TalkFest

  • Start : 05 Nov, 2015
  • End : 30 Nov, 2015

Readomania #Talkfest was inaugurated last evening at Gulmohar Hall, India Habitat Centre with a scintillating lecture on Journalism and the Art of Writing by the journalist-turned-author, Avirook Sen. The lecture hall, packed to its capacity, was full of literary enthusiasts who were riveted by the writing tips revealed by Sen, which he uses during the metamorphosis of an investigative report into a factual narrative. He discussed the significance of verification and attribution of facts as some keystones of this kind of writing.

This was followed by audience interaction session which saw lively debates on the connect between journalism and writing. His recent book ‘Aarushi’ which has ignited a storm across the country on media ethics and middle class attitudes was referred to repeatedly. The writers and readers gathered were interested to know how he had dealt with the various aspects of this high-profile case. Sen quoted some text from the book to illustrate certain features of non-fiction writing. Among many questions was this, ‘How did you avoid being subjective while writing the book?’ Sen was categorical in his response that he is very objective when observing events that he reports on. So he didn’t find it difficult to carry the same objectivity into writing the book.

Readomania, the literary brand, is the force behind the #Talkfest. According to the traditions of Readomania that believes in harmony of various art forms, this session opened to a sloka dedicated to the ‘existence of perfection in this universe’ followed by poetry recitation. The aim of the #Talkfest, that will be held once every two months, is to bring writers, readers and art enthusiasts in one place through a series of lectures on art and literature. It is a forum for talks, lectures, debates and discussions around art and literature.

Readomania #Talkfest invites people think…to make them introspect and reflect, hoping it will change attitudes and reactions. It is an effort, possibly a tiny one, to make this world a better place.
