The city was shrouded in a cloak of white fog. Fires and heaters struggled to keep warm all those who huddled around.

At the corner of a long row of houses, a solo lamp post glowed softly, it’s yellow light fast losing the battle to the shroud that enveloped it.

Right across the lamp post a gate sprung open. Taking advantage of the cold dead night, a bunch of heavily layered figures slipped in. With hoods covering their heads, bulky jackets concealing incriminating evidence of why they were there, they footed across the sleeping garden. Their arms heavy with apparatus for the impending attack slowed their gait. They moved stealthily but surely.

The one leading the line let them in with his key. They were careful not to make a sound. They knew where to head, and took off in the direction of the young girl’s bedroom.

Ratika was lost in the blissful world of dreams. Little did she know what, or who lurked behind the door.

The knob turned with a click and allowed free access to the intruders. The door creaked, making them cringe. They stilled, waiting to make sure the noise didn't wake the girl.

When they knew they were in the clear, the group slipped in, silent and alert. One of them stepped forward and nudged Ratika’s foot. Why they wanted her awake was anyone’s guess. He prodded and poked her until she sat up bewildered. The shadowy figures were already waiting with barely concealed anticipation.

An unfamiliar rustle followed by a hushed whisper piqued Ratika's suspicions. She flicked on the bedside lamp. The room illuminated, their dark cover blown, the group moved into action. They pounced on the bed, smothering her in their entangled arms.
