Author Overview
I have been a caged bird since my youthful days in the '80s. But I was born with the urge to sing my songs of freedom. So, I cherish my girlhood amidst woods and trees in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. I grew fond of nature and felt a penchant for expressing myself in my diary, which I could not share with my friends. My journal became my true friend to whom I told about my agonies and ecstasies as a girl child and my socially conditioned life. During those days, we had no cell phone or internet. A girl child in an upper-middle-class, conservative home was not encouraged to pursue games and sports. So, reading books in English, Hindi, Bengali, and even Sanskrit kept me alive and fulfilled. I read in my orchard in all seasons, feeling the color and smell around me. Later, I contributed to school and college magazines. Yet, early domesticity and marriage stole my dreams of becoming a media person. I completed my Education against the tide of deterrence and became an English teacher at the senior secondary level. Then I guess-lectured in a college and IGNOU, TEACHING English literature and language. I contributed my articles to the American Magazine Ezine started publishing my work. I wrote about my solo travel experience to the Kashmir valley and Thailand, where I learned about the international teaching mode. I got my certificate of excellence from there. After that, I wrote articles, snapshots of memoirs, and short stories of a different flavor. I learned to self-edit my work to make it more modern in style and presentation. The Ezine team honored me with an Expert Author certificate in 2016. Till 2017, I had contributed many of my memorable writings here. In 2018, a very personal tragedy hit my life. I left my job and started my tutorial at home. In 2019, I completed my creative writing course at the British Council, Kolkata. They awarded me with an A+ certificate. In 2020, Covid hit the life around me. My personal life suffered like the world around me. The life of ordinary men and women was never like before. We were waking up to a new reality, which transformed our perception of reality. I turned to write for catharsis. I created the trilogy "Even Caged Birds Sing." I poured into my writing to release the suffocation of existence that seemed to kill my spirits. The book received good reviews from India, the UK, and the USA. I was happy that a typical Indian woman could speak to the world beyond. This appreciation inspired me to write about "An Untamed Soul." It is about the epic journey of an educated and enlightened woman from an Indian small town. Though a timeless love story, it is also about crime, violence, revenge, and apartheid. In three parts, the novel is a saga of true crime that explores the battle between Love and Hatred, Humanity and empathy versus Criminal Conspiracy and Atrocity. In 2022, I fine-edited the book and republished it as one book, “Phoenix,” which earned me praise from book buffs. I want to write more about the many facets of India, portraying the beauty and the beast. I wish I could be a genuine Indian Author in English. I want to write about real issues in my signature style, which I am trying to develop.
