I once happily boasted of being a journalist. But then there was a change in designation and I promoted myself to becoming a full-time mom to raise my two kids, Mowgli and Archie. I still have this nagging urge to pick up the pen or rather furiously attack the keyboard when there are a million ideas or thoughts jostling for space in my mind, but I am forced to pick up my sons' text books instead and focus on meeting their deadlines of class tests and assignments. Sometimes it seems a thankless profession especially at the end of the month. What wouldn't I do to be lured by those bylines, breaking stories and yes, the fat pay package at the end of the month. A sure high! I miss my economic independence, my time out with friends, my 'importance' and the feeling that I too can make a diffference. But no matter how much I crib and fret, I keep hoping that someday my sons will realise my worth and at least thank me with a warm hug for bringing them up well.
