If instead of that focused poet

I become a lost soul

Which is unlike the way you like

Would you still light my way?

If instead of writing a poem for you

I slowly place a kiss on your nape

While you sleep,

Would you still return the kiss in morning?

If instead of standing still, leading all

I lay back on a sofa

Writing unnecessary words,

Would you still read my futile lines?

If instead of holding you

As you cry,

I fall into the unknown abyss,

Would you let me cry on your shoulder?

If instead of becoming a legacy,

I simply lose myself in myriad alleys

Of my messed up memories,

Would you still hold my hand?

Why can’t my heartbeats be enough?

Why can’t my shivering lips be more than enough?

Based on the protagonist of A Thousand Unspoken Words by Paulami Duttagupta
