Thank You My Friend

You took me in when I had lost all hope
You gave me shelter when everyone else abandoned me
You gave me hope when all was despair
You loved and cared for me in my shabby, tick-infested state
When the hair on my skin was dry and patchy and red
You patted me and gave me medicine
Hugged me cried for me and fed me with your own hands
You kept me warm with a blanket and a bowl of hot milk
You wiped my tears and cleaned my mouth
You carried me in your arms and when my time drew near
My dear friend you let me go  ...yes ever so gently
For that, I shall be ever grateful and thank God it was you who found me that night
