Whether it is the conventional guilty indulgences of drinking and smoking pot, or the high one feels on an achievement that sets said person apart from his peers, life throws many a chance to live through that sense of exhilaration and adrenaline rush many crave for.
For me… it is the thrill of travelling to a new destination, one filled with possibilities and new discoveries, that sets my blood singing like nothing else can. It is an addiction which cannot be rehabilitated, nor do I wish for it to be so. Going to a hill station deep in the midst of Himachal induces a craving to explore and trek every nook and cranny, every niche and hedge along the slopes of the mountainsides.
Of all the dreams that I see, walking along the pyramids of Cairo, monuments of bygone days that have withstood the test of time where many modern skyscrapers have failed, tops them all. I hope to one day walk across the vast expanse of sand there and perhaps try and fathom how life was for one of the most ancient civilizations of the world, pioneer to so many indulgences of our life today. I wish to visit the Colosseum in Rome, and see if I can still hear the sound of swords clanging against each other to try and snuff out another life for sport. The wilderness of Africa, so untouched and rampant with wildlife, that induces a thrill even when I see it on television. How magnified will that rush be, when I come upon it physically? I yearn to lay my eyes on Germany and Russia, torn apart once by war and hatred; one by the hatred of a dictator, one by that of its own people. To know if they still hold traces of the death and tragedy, even as far into the 21st century.
And when I am done seeing all these sights, thence will begin my journey into the unknown and untouched. Because for all the glamour of those which are a testament to centuries of history and discovery, the thrill of the undiscovered is a journey unparalleled…
