It’s not like am living alone in this 5 BHK, three thousand square feet individual home. It’s costing us much every month.

I am living with my brother, Adrian. At home, we predominantly watch TV especially national geographic. That’s a bit disappointing because how long can you watch a channel that is meant to show mammals, insects and reptiles all the times? But here is where the line between me and my brother has been darkly drawn. Channels showing humans no longer make sense to Adrian.

Everything began when Adrian met with an accident. Except for his brain, rest of his body was completely smashed. We had to get him ‘transformed’, and all this happened only a week back. So, it is me who must get used to it. Well, honestly, I am not alone in this too. William, my neighbor has 2 years’ experience in this. His daughter Sheila fell from the 7th floor in her office and only her brain could be recovered. So, she was put into a mouse.

It is the current trend. Is everything except the core, collapsed? Don’t worry. Just put the core into something equivalent but small so that the neural pathways are kept intact, and the core continues to function as usual. This way you are not losing it entirely but getting to see it in a different manageable dimension.

So, I have got a list of dos’ and don’ts from William.

First, I bought that small ultrasonic interpreter from online. It helps translating ultrasonic squeaks from mice into human understandable meaningful sentences. It has a monthly subscription which means, I must earn well to pay for its services every month. Otherwise, Adrian is all good exploring our big home and lawn in his new body frame. For his size, our big home is like a continent. I only had to connect a Bluetooth transmitter-receiver so that no matter which pothole he entered and squeaked; I could still hear him.

All Adrian needed was just some pulses and cereals and some dog biscuits while I toiled a lot in the kitchen to prepare food to fill my tummy and in the office to pay off home loan. Cleaning the lawn, bathroom, garage and kitchen fell in my plate as only I used them. These days am more at home as more and more people, especially girls, transformed into mouse, squirrels, peacocks and so on. Considerable percentage of a county opted for transformation for the benefits it offered. Transformed ones enjoyed limitless freedom, became forest-dwellers with limitless access to food and shelter and so on.

‘Yo, why don’t you get yourself into something like me? Guess what? I am now dating Sheila.” Ultrasonic interpreter translated Adrian’s words one day.

We both had been having crush on Sheila as she was our neighbor. Back then, it was just one of the several things that can be attributed to the teenage we both were in. At some point later, we started seeing things differently and Sheila soon vanished from our fantasies. Thinking of Adrian dating Sheila, in a way, excited me as I know how valued it would be to get to see one’s teenage dream come to reality.

That struck me hard somewhere deep in my brains. I approached the county officials and sought for the highway CCTV archives. They asked for a reason and I pretended to be a private investigator interested in solving a case. Court approvals took me couple of days and in the end, I got a copy of the CCTV archives of the day Adrian met with the accident.

It clearly showed Adrian voluntarily throwing himself in front of a racing truck.
