‘On a ship again….

A blast on the klaxon, a ring on the gong

Every hour measured, every mile too long

The horizon beckons, there're places to go

The sea shall free us, I know for sure...

Yes, the sea shall free us, I know for sure….’.

Step aboard and set sail into a world of rhythm, rhyme, and the roaring sea! Get ready for Salt Water Ballads, the latest poetic voyage from seasoned master mariner and bestselling author Capt. Beetashok Chatterjee.

This is no ordinary collection of poems. With the heart of a sailor and the soul of a storyteller, Capt. Chatterjee brings you 52 lyrical ballads—each one soaked in salt and brimming with stories. You’ll taste the brine, feel the sea spray on your face, and hear the creak of old timbers as waves slap the hull of memory.

Do you miss poetry that tells a story? That sings to you in rhythm and rhyme? These poems could be sea shanties, could be love songs, or even ballads of loss and adventure. All they need is a tune—and your imagination.

What’s inside?

  • Tales of longing, disaster, and camaraderie
  • Whispers of waves and wild winds
  • Verses that dance between danger and delight
  • Songs of the sea, told with old-world charm and modern heart

Whether you’ve walked a deck or only dreamed of oceans, this collection is your boarding pass to another world.

About the Poet:

Capt. Beetashok Chatterjee was a ship's captain by profession. He joined the Merchant Navy at a young age and loved it, retiring only after having completed more than 45 years at sea.

His first collection of short stories ‘Driftwood—stories washed ashore’ (Readomania 2019) surprised him with the favourable response it got and he decided that this is what he wanted to do for the rest of his life—write. His second volume of stories ‘The People Tree—stories about us and them’ (Readomania 2021), had nothing to do with the sea, since he wanted to prove a point that he is versatile.  Some poems of his were published in an anthology Monochrome Verses in 2023.  He has contributed to a Covid anthology ‘The Phoenix Rises—Lockdown Chronicles’ (Wisdom Tree 2020), along with many eminent writers and poets.  ‘Mayday!’ his foray into nonfiction, was #1 in its genre on the Amazon Bestseller List for two months. He has attended Litfests as an invitee at Pune and Nagpur as a panelist and interviewee. This is his first full volume of poetry.

He has been invited to schools and local universities as a judge for short story competitions, as well as to give talks on subjects close to his heart. Besides these, he is a blogger, and also runs a Book Club in Gurgaon, where he resides.

This old sea dog continues to be carried where Life and the current take him. Like driftwood.
