What If Healing Begins Somewhere Deeper Than the Body?

The Self-Cure Code: How Consciousness, Dreams, Belief, and Genes Converge to Heal

What happens when a doctor trained in Western medicine begins to look beyond conventional ideas of healing?

In The Self-Cure Code, internationally trained ophthalmologist, researcher and medical innovator Dinesh Verma, MD takes readers on a deeply personal and thought-provoking journey through medicine, grief, trauma, genetics, belief and consciousness.

Drawing on more than three decades in medicine, science and technology, as well as his encounters with patients, family and friends, Dr Verma explores a fascinating question: Can our thoughts, beliefs, relationships and consciousness influence the body’s capacity to heal?

From extraordinary stories of recovery to explorations of the placebo effect, meditation, mind-body medicine, epigenetics, dreams and ancient Indian wisdom, The Self-Cure Code journeys into the intriguing space where science meets consciousness and medicine meets mystery.

Part memoir, part medical inquiry and part exploration of the human mind, this book invites us to reconsider what we know about healing—and to look more closely at the remarkable relationship between the mind, body and self.

About the Author

Dr Dinesh Verma's life journey spans the worlds of medicine, science, technology, and human consciousness. An internationally trained ophthalmologist, researcher, educator, and author, he has spent over three decades exploring not only how we see the world through our eyes, but also how we perceive it through the mind.

After completing his postgraduate training at the renowned Dr Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi, he pursued advanced specialist training in the United Kingdom and was awarded fellowships of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons. His distinguished career has included appointments as Consultant Ophthalmologist, Chief of Retina Services, university lecturer, examiner, researcher, and medical innovator across India, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

His academic journey led him to the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University and later to the Doheny Retina Institute and the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, where he contributed to pioneering work in virtual reality simulation and emerging medical technologies. Throughout his career, he has maintained a deep interest in the intersection of medicine, ethics, artificial intelligence, telemedicine, innovation, and the healing potential of human consciousness.

Yet, beyond his professional achievements, Dr Verma has remained a lifelong student of the deeper questions that science alone cannot fully answer. His exploration of genetics, mind-body medicine, placebo effects, meditation, spirituality, and the nature of awareness has shaped both his medical practice and his personal philosophy.

Now a Goan by choice, he devotes his time to writing, reflection, and the continuing inquiry into what it means to heal, to evolve, and to awaken. Through his books, he invites readers to look beyond the boundaries of conventional medicine and discover the profound connections between genes, thoughts, beliefs, relationships, and consciousness itself.

The Self-Cure Code is both a personal memoir and an exploration of the extraordinary possibilities that emerge when science, healing, and self-discovery converge.

The Self-Cure Code is his fourth book.
